Case Study: Falmouth College
22nd March 2017
Dr Matt Fox from Falmouth College explains the impact Unifrog has had on his students, staff school.
Falmouth College first started using Unifrog in 2015 and since its introduction the number of university applications and apprenticeship applications have risen. What it does for us is to raise the profile of post-18 options from early in Y12 and start making grades on their reports mean something personal to them and their future. Cornwall has traditionally had a low application rate to higher education and we are now bucking the trend.
"We have had excellent feedback from parents..."
The students can be tracked effectively by tutors and conversations can take place based on solid situations rather than the woolly non-specific criteria as we were previously. We have had excellent feedback from parents; they feel like they can really compare university courses rather than the laborious task of visiting several websites.
Our vocational students can apply in real time and see what is available right now for apprenticeships across our region. Several students have applied to apprenticeships via Unifrog and it has entirely demystified the apprenticeship programme for them. Tutors now have all the information at their fingertips so they can give realistic advice on career pathways.
"In their most recent visit, we were asked by Ofsted inspector about our advice and guidance for our College students and the answer for me was simple: Unifrog does it all."
In their most recent visit, we were asked by Ofsted inspector about our advice and guidance for our College students and the answer for me was simple: Unifrog does it all. The scope, guidance, tracking and ease of access means that Ofsted left knowing that one of the main reasons for our improved higher education progression rate was Unifrog’s high quality, relevant, accurate and timely advice given from this excellent on-line tool.
Our Head of Progress for Y13 says “It is essential for our Y13s to organise and focus their plan for choosing their university open days and apprenticeship applications. The information given during the process and emailed directly to them gives valuable, targeted advice.”
Falmouth College is a vibrant, innovative and successful provider of post-16 courses for all students in the Falmouth and Penryn area.
