St. Gregory’s Catholic School

State school in South East UK

“Unifrog has given our students much more insight into their options, not limiting them to just a university search. The platform has definitely given students right across the ability spectrum raised aspirations and increased confidence in their choices.”

Emma Shoreland, Director of Teaching & Learning Key Stage 5

The need

"Our students used to give us by hand their Personal Statements for comments, leading to a messy paper trail. I was always worried that things could be lost, so I created a spreadsheet where I tried to keep track of the latest state of play for 110 students - it was a nightmare!

We were looking for a platform that had everything students needed in one place - things like university search, apprenticeship search, the ability to log competencies, to draft Personal Statements, and for teachers to log predicted grades and write References.

We came across Unifrog and it looked like everything we needed and more, and also so easy to use. We decided to give it a go!”

Aspirations

“Unifrog has given our students much more insight into their options, not limiting them to just a university search. The apprenticeship search tool has been of great use. The platform has definitely given students right across the ability spectrum raised aspirations and increased confidence in their choices.”

Peace of mind

“Unifrog has also helped the teachers and administrators monitor each student's progress and ensure that all pupils are doing what they should be doing to make their future as bright as possible. And the messy Personal Statement paper trail is a thing of the past which I’m particularly happy about!”

Favourite feature

“We have a lot of favourite features! But if I had to pick… on the UK university search tool there’s a statistic telling you for each university course what qualifications and grades most applicants got in with last year. This is particularly useful for students who are struggling to make their mind up on a Firm and Insurance choice when their offers are very similar for two institutions."

Top tips

“I would recommend launching Unifrog with Year 12 as early as possible in the academic year as it is a really motivating platform and it gets them thinking about their future plans. To be honest getting started in Key Stage 4 or even Key Stage 3 is even better.

Another thing is that the Personal Statement tool is really well structured and intuitive but I recommend that students use the Competencies Tool first so that they build up a store of information to put into their Statement during Year 12.

I also recommend that students have a serious look at the MOOCs tool. Taking a MOOC in a field related to a student’s chosen degree could make a huge difference to their application because it evidences their passion for the subject for which they are applying, plus their ability to learn independently.”
