40,000 students - what are the 10 most popular subjects?
24th September 2014

Since Unifrog started last year, more than 40,000 students have used it to find the best 5 courses to put on their UCAS forms.
So after all this research, which are the most popular subjects? Here is the Top 10:
- Psychology
- Business Management
- Mechanical Engineering
- History
- English
- Law
- Mathematics
- Economics
- Sport and Exercise Science
- Chemistry
However, there is clearly a bit of a gap between what students consider, and what they actually choose to study. Below are the UK’s 10 most popular university subjects, in terms of the number of students enrolled (Telegraph, 2013):
- Business and management studies – 124,375
- Law – 66,035
- Sociology and social studies – 66,020
- Art and design – 65,505
- IT and computer science – 62,670
- Psychology – 61,055
- Education – 56,200
- Nursing – 53,440
- Biosciences – 45,795
- History – 42,250
One thing that we’re working on at Unifrog, is enabling schools – well in advance of sending off applications to UCAS – to see which subjects are most popular with their students. This way advisers can organise appropriate trips and talks, to give their students the best chance of university success.
