How can Unifrog help you meet the two-week work experience guarantee?
27th April 2026

Two weeks of work experience may sound like a lot to squeeze in, especially when there's so much to get into one academic year! Have no fear: in this guide, we show you how you can use Unifrog to help you meet the guarantee easily, effectively, and with clear evidence.
The two-week work experience guarantee is a government ambition that every young person should have around ten days of meaningful workplace experiences across key stages 3 and 4.
What are meaningful workplace experiences?
Meaningful workplace experiences usually include opportunities for students to:
- interact with employers or employees
- complete workplace-style tasks or projects
- receive feedback on their work
- reflect on what they have learned about jobs, skills and workplaces
The idea is that they're designed with clear learning outcomes, and that they help students connect their education to real workplaces and career opportunities.
Which Unifrog tools and resources will help you meet this guarantee?
We help schools and colleges deliver these experiences progressively across Years 7–11 through a flexible combination of virtual and in-person workplace experiences.
| Year groups | Activity | Description | Virtual or in person? |
| All | Visitor talks | A resource to help you host a meaningful employer encounter in assembly or tutor time | In person |
| All | (Live webinars + Careers in… courses) | Structured virtual workplace experience days combining employer interaction, workplace tasks, feedback and reflection | Virtual |
| Y9+ | Placements contacts database | We believe this is the UK's biggest database of employers who are up for hosting work experience - it's included in our Placements tool | In person |
| Y9+ | Placements tool | Helps you organise, track and evaluate meaningful in-person workplace placements. This now includes the ability to track the number of hours per placement. | In person |
| Y10+ | Live Virtual Work Experience (VWEX) | Employer-led virtual work experience programmes featuring live employer insight, immersive tasks and reflection | Virtual |
Unifrog provides a seamless way for schools and colleges to build, manage, and evidence the full ten days of meaningful workplace encounters required to meet the government guarantee.
How can students track placement hours on Unifrog?
In the near future, students will be able to use Unifrog to track their placement hours. We’ve combined the Interactions and Activities tools to help keep everything in one place. This means both teachers and students can log activities and experiences of the workplace in hours to help schools and colleges make sure they’re meeting the two-week guarantee.
When students log an activity, they’ll be able to estimate how many total hours they spent doing this activity:
And, teachers will be able to track activities and experiences of work from the Advanced view of the Manage page:

How do students receive feedback in Unifrog’s virtual experiences?
Our ‘Careers in…’ courses are built in collaboration with employers to develop task-specific automated feedback for every course. This makes sure that even during independent, on-demand learning, students are held to professional standards. Each task includes written guidance and numerical scores developed alongside industry experts, providing students with immediate, job-relevant reflection on their work.
In our virtual work experience (VWEX) courses, we provide a multi-layered feedback model designed to mimic a real-world workplace at scale:
- Instant evaluation: Students receive immediate written feedback and scores on their individual submissions. These responses are co-developed with our employer partners to make sure they align with genuine industry expectations.
- Live professional insight: Employers lead dedicated webinars to deconstruct the tasks. They explain the ‘why’ behind each assignment, describe what a strong response looks like, and often share ‘model thinking’ from their own current apprentices or early-career graduates
Do virtual experiences “count” towards the two-week guarantee?
For KS3, the Department for Education says:
“Some or all of the activities can be in person, with virtual activities contributing but not replacing in-person.”
Therefore, if students do some in-person activities, the virtual ones ‘count’ towards the two week total.
For KS4, the Department for Education says:
“We expect that the work experience placement(s) in Years 10 to 11 be in person, but acknowledge that in exceptional circumstances, meaningful hybrid or virtual approaches may be impactful in removing barriers to access. In those circumstances, we would expect best endeavours to use remote engagement alongside, but not instead of, in-person activity.”
Therefore, VWEX and ‘Careers in…’ courses shouldn't replace the in-person placement, but they are the ideal way to supplement it or provide a high-quality alternative for students who face barriers to traditional placements.
We recommend taking a blended approach:
- In-person activities (like visitor talks in KS3 and traditional placements in KS4) to meet Department for Education expectations
- Virtual Unifrog resources (like ‘Careers in…’ and virtual work experience courses) to meet the wider requirements of a modern work experience programme
