In October 2023, we hosted our World of Work Conference in Birmingham to connect teachers and advisors with employers to talk about work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for students.
Over 110 teachers and advisors braved storms and train cancellations to join us for inspiring live talks, panel discussions, and networking throughout the day.
What was on the agenda?
Our CEO, Dan Keller, kicked off the conference with a glimpse into the future of work experience and apprenticeship provision on Unifrog. Two of our Account Managers, Kai and Dave, then presented an in-depth look at how the Placements tool can simplify and centralise WEX processes for teachers and advisors.
We heard from representatives of partner employers Aon and Severn Trent on the ways that work experience can benefit students, especially those with social anxiety, and a WEX Coordinator from one of our partner schools shared her wisdom on how best to manage work experience at a school or college.
Amazing Apprenticeships, the experts on apprenticeship and vocational education, ran a live session along with early careers professionals from our partner employers HSBC and The Dyson Institute. Together they discussed the potential power of apprenticeships to unlock a range of pathways for young people.
Teachers and advisors also had the opportunity to put their questions to other partner employers – Cooper Parry, E.on, EY, and Specsavers – about their available work experience and apprenticeship offerings.
What did attendees find most useful?
After the event, we asked teachers and advisors what they enjoyed most about the World of Work Conference. Some of the most popular answers included:
Networking, hearing all the amazing things other schools are doing
Hearing from industry experts about the programmes they run - this can be difficult and time-consuming to find out so having people there to talk to is great
Variety and quality of speakers
Unifrog staff are so friendly and really, really helpful
Overall, 96% of attendees said that they would like to attend another Unifrog conference. One careers advisor described it as “one of the most insightful, informative, and tangible experiences”.
