For teachers: what is the Equalex framework?
What it's all about in terms that make sense

The Equalex framework is the CEC's latest guidance on modern work experience. In this guide, we break down what it is and what it means for your school or college in easy-to-understand terms.
What is the Equalex framework?
Equalex is the Careers & Enterprise Company’s framework for modern work experience. It sets out learning outcomes and objectives to help schools and colleges plan high-quality, meaningful experiences over time.
The framework is organised around three core themes:
Introduce and inspire – helping learners broaden their awareness of opportunities, build self-awareness, and be inspired by future possibilities.
Investigate and explore – helping learners develop career readiness, explore roles and responsibilities, and understand growth sectors and the changing economy.
Apply and demonstrate – helping learners apply knowledge and skills in workplace contexts, and use those experiences to inform future decisions.
Equalex is designed to help schools and colleges build a progressive programme of modern work experience, rather than expecting one activity or placement to deliver everything.
It emphasises that work experience is about more than just traditional in-person work placements. It also includes activities that help learners explore opportunities, develop and demonstrate workplace skills, record their progress, and reflect on how their experiences connect to future careers.
How do Unifrog’s tools and resources meet the framework?
Unifrog supports the entire Equalex framework through nine key resources covering:
- careers learning,
- employer encounters,
- workplace experiences, and
- reflection.
Alongside Unifrog’s interactions tracking, these tools support schools and colleges to build, manage, and evidence a progressive programme of modern work experience.
