What is a live career experience day?
Live career experience days are employer-led, interactive virtual work experience days for students in KS3 and beyond.
Students begin with a live employer webinar, using polls, quizzes and Q&A to learn about the industry. They then explore roles, skills and pathways in a second industry and try out real workplace tasks online or in class. A final webinar lets them compare both industries and reflect on what they’ve learned and where they might work in the future.
Each day supports:

When is the first live career experience day?
Our first live career experience day will take place on Tuesday 17 November 2026, in partnership with Hertfordshire Zoo.
More dates and employers for the 2026/27 academic year will be announced soon.
How can I sign up for a live career experience day?
- If you plan to show the webinars to students as a class, sign up as a teacher.
- If students will watch the webinars independently on their own devices, send them the student sign-up link instead.
What happens during a live career experience day?
Students take part in three linked elements:
- Live employer webinar (9am - 9:30am)
- Applied workplace learning (9:30am - 2pm)
- Structured reflection and consolidation (2pm - 2:30pm)
Live employer webinar (9am - 9:30am)
Students participate in an interactive, employer-led webinar exploring:
- job roles and responsibilities
- skills and behaviours used at work
- work environments and career pathways
- links between curriculum learning and the workplace
The session includes structured two-way interaction (e.g. polls, quizzes, student questions), making sure learners have the opportunity to engage directly with an employer.
Students can either watch this as a group in a classroom setting, or individually on their own computers or devices.
Applied workplace learning (9:30am - 2pm)
If students have computer access, they can use the Unifrog platform to independently complete one or more ‘Careers in…’ courses aligned with their interests.

Students complete the course(s) at their own pace. In them, they will:
- explore relevant industries and job roles
- complete workplace-style tasks
- receive feedback informed by industry experts
- develop their understanding of skills, expectations, and working practices
- learn about LMI, qualifications needed, and pathways into the sector
If students do not have computer access, teachers can use our ‘Careers experience day classroom pack’ to take students through an offline version of one of the courses. The classroom pack will be available to download closer to the time.
Structured reflection and consolidation (2pm - 2:30pm)
The day concludes with an online guided reflection webinar that helps students:
- compare learning from the employer interaction and workplace tasks
- identify common skills across roles and sectors
- reflect on work environments, expectations, and progression routes
This makes sure that learning is explicit, connected, and grounded in the world of work. Students can either watch this as a group in a classroom setting, or individually on their own computers or devices.
Will students appear on camera during the webinars?
No. Student cameras and mics are turned off.
Does a live careers experience day count towards the two-week guarantee?
Under the two-week guarantee, pupils should receive:
- At least one week of work experience activities in Years 7–9.
- At least one week of placements in Years 10–11.
How live career experience days fit in:
- For KS3 students: A live virtual careers experience day can count towards the requirement, but it should be part of a wider programme that includes in-person activities.
- For KS4 students: It can supplement an in-person placement, but it should not normally replace one unless there are exceptional circumstances.
