IN A NUTSHELL

Teachers and career advisers can take CPD courses accredited by the Careers Development Institute (CDI) and the Certification Service in Unifrog's new Teacher CPD courses tool.

The courses are on demand, self-paced, and designed to supercharge professional practice at your school or college. 

They help teachers and career advisers feel more confident in supporting students applying to destinations around the world, in delivering PSHE, and in running a work experience programme. They harness career development and counseling theory, and they are also very practical (for example, they feature practical exercises, and interviews with admissions officers at top universities).

The courses are accredited by an independent assessor, and can count towards hours or points for Continuing Professional Development. 

The teacher CPD courses on how to make the most out of Unifrog are included as part of a normal Unifrog subscription. 

The teacher CPD courses on all other topics are available through the paid-for CPD package, which costs £450 exVAT a year: a flat fee for all staff at your school/college to take best-in-class, accredited CPD courses.

HOW TO ACCESS THE COURSES IN THE PAID-FOR CPD PACKAGE

When your school/college subscribes to the paid-for CPD package: 

• The relevant courses appear for all teachers at your school/college in the CPD courses tool;
• Teachers can take the courses as many times as they like;
• When Unifrog later releases a new course within the paid-for package, it is automatically made live for teachers at your school/college - there is no extra cost.

Only teachers with Unifrog logins can take the courses.

You can get to the new Teacher CPD courses tool from your teacher homepage, in the ‘What’s happening' section: On the start page of the tool, you can browse the courses by theme or role, and search by keyword.

HOW TO TAKE A TEACHER CPD COURSE

The courses are made up of between three and six sessions. Each session takes approximately 30 - 60 minutes to complete. The total completion time therefore depends on the length and structure of the individual course.

HOW CPD COURSE ACCREDITATION WORKS

CPD accreditation means a course has been independently reviewed against continuing professional development standards by an external assessor. In most cases this is by the CPD Certification Service; the course 'Careers advising principles and professional practice' has also been accredited by the Careers Development Institute (CDI).

Many of the Unifrog teacher CPD courses are CPD certified, and these ones are distinguishable by the CPD logo.

Once a teacher has completed all the sessions of a Unifrog teacher CPD course, they receive a completion certificate as evidence of professional development, as well as links to useful additional resources.
 

ABOUT THE THEMES

Here is more information about the five themes for which CPD courses are live from 21 September 2026. In the future we will make live courses in the themes ‘PSHE’ and ‘Work Experience’.
 

1. HOW TO USE UNIFROG

Courses on how to make the most out of Unifrog: 

• As a careers adviser
• As a classroom teacher

2. CAREERS IN THE CURRICULUM

• IN A NUTSHELL
  
  These subject-specific courses help classroom teachers understand how they can make meaningful careers links in everyday teaching, within the normal curriculum.
  
  At launch there are courses for:

  Careers in the curriculum: English
  Careers in the curriculum: Maths
  Careers in the curriculum: Science

We will release more subject-specific courses in batches, as they are ready.

• HOW COURSES IN THIS THEME ARE STRUCTURED
  
  Each ‘Careers in the curriculum’ course is made up of five sessions:
  1. Your role in careers education
  2. Step one: Show why your subject matters
  3. Step two: Embed careers into teaching
  4. Step three: Connect learning to future pathways
  5. Your Careers in the Curriculum action plan
      
• RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS WHO COMPLETE A COURSE IN THIS THEME
  
  Teachers who complete a course in this theme get access to:
  • Subject-specific curriculum activity slides 
  • Unifrog’s careers in the curriculum starter and plenary templates
  • A universal school-trip careers worksheet
  • A subject-specific school-trip example with model answers

For example, the English course includes prepared slides linked to topics like persuasive writing, transactional writing, and Shakespeare.

Teachers can add these slides directly to their lessons or adapt them to suit their own curriculum and context.

3. CAREERS GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING

• IN A NUTSHELL
  
  The ‘Careers advising principles and professional practice’ course helps staff explore the practical and specialist role of a careers adviser. Developed in partnership with Jessica Pieri from The Careers People, and accredited by the Careers Development Initiative (CDI), it covers:
  • Personal guidance
  • Group guidance
  • Supporting informed career decisions
  • Ethical practice
  • Supporting student wellbeing
  • Reflective practice
     
• WHO THE COURSE IN THIS THEME IS FOR
  
  This course doesn’t provide the formal qualification required to practise as a professionally qualified careers adviser.
  
  The course is useful for staff who want to:
  • Refresh and develop their existing careers guidance practice
  • Apply careers guidance theory more confidently
  • Learn more about the principles of effective personal and group guidance
  • Explore the role before pursuing a formal careers qualification
  • Develop careers guidance skills as part of a wider school role
     

4. PATHWAYS: UK

• IN A NUTSHELL
  
  Courses in the ‘Pathways: UK’ theme help staff support students exploring and applying to UK destinations. Here are the courses in this theme going live on 21 September:
  
  Supporting students applying to UK universities (made in partnership with the University of Surrey, University of Keele, University of Huddersfield, University of the West of England (UWE), University of Bath, University of Northumbria)
  
  Supporting students applying to apprenticeships in England
  
  Supporting students with interviews and assessment days 
  
  Here are the courses in this theme going live after 21 September, as they are ready:
  
  Supporting students applying to Oxford and Cambridge
  Supporting students applying to apprenticeships in Wales
  Supporting students applying to apprenticeships in Scotland

5. PATHWAYS: INTERNATIONAL

  The courses in the ‘Pathways: International’ theme help staff support students applying to popular international destinations.
  
  UK schools have access to the courses:
  
  Supporting students applying to the US
  Supporting students applying to Canada
  Supporting students applying to Europe
  Supporting students applying to Australia and New Zealand
   
• WHAT'S COVERED IN EACH COURSE IN THIS THEME
  
  Each course is tailored to the relevant destination and helps staff understand:
  • The structure of the education system
  • Application routes and platforms
  • Key terminology
  • Entry requirements
  • Application timelines
  • What supporting documents are necessary
  • How to help students research and compare options
  • Common questions and challenges
     

THE PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH BEHIND THE CPD COURSES

The activities in the courses are grounded in career development and counseling theory, including Egan’s Skilled Helper Model, Rogers’ person-centred counseling, the Law and Watts DOTS model, the Karpman Drama Triangle, and reflective practice models developed by Schön, Gibbs, and Driscoll.

The courses are also very practical - in every session teachers engage with interactive tasks and reflective exercises designed to support day-to-day work with students.

The courses have been created by our level 7 registered career development professional (RCDP) with a master’s degree in careers guidance, along with our team of course writers, made up of former teachers with over 50 years’ teaching experience between them.

The courses have also had expert external input: our partner universities have provided insider information on current university systems across the world, and the CPD Certification Service have reviewed the courses against their own rigorous criteria.

CONNECTING WITH COURSE SPONSORS

If a course is sponsored by one of Unifrog’s university or employer partners, a teacher can choose to share their contact details with the sponsor. A teacher can change their mind at any time by going back to the course’s start page.

When a teacher shares their contact details it means the sponsor can be in touch with them with opportunities for the teacher and their students, like professional fellowships, bursaries, or subject masterclasses.
