What’s Coventry University like?
Here at Coventry University, our most popular subjects include nursing, engineering, radiography, physiotherapy, law, psychology, and film production. We have a wide range of courses and offer degrees with a foundation year and with an integrated masters, to cater to different learners’ needs.
Our courses are vocationally focused, meaning they're designed to provide real-world study experiences to help prepare you for your future career. Most of our degrees also offer the opportunity to complete a professional placement or a period of study abroad, so you can fulfil your aspirations of working for a top employer or living in a different country.
We also have students from over 160 countries at the university, which means we have a rich fabric of different cultures here, creating a fantastic international community. We have a range of societies which international students have created to get together, celebrate, and teach others about their culture.
What accommodation options are available to students?
We have a great range of accommodation options at Coventry University, from halls of residence to studios and privately owned shared houses. If you’re accepted through UCAS, you’re guaranteed accommodation in either university-owned or privately-owned rooms.
We have three student halls, each with different benefits. Bishop Gate, built in 2018, provides 725 ensuites, ‘twudio’ (double occupancy) rooms, and studios, in flats of nine and ten rooms. It’s less than ten minutes from the Hub, one of our main student buildings, and close to a major supermarket.
The Cycle Works, built in 2017, consists of a mix of 4-12 bedroom flats and studios. All the rooms in this hall are ensuite, meaning students have their own space to call home.
Godiva Place, built in 2018, consists of a mix of 4-12 ensuite bedroom flats, studios, and ‘twudio’ rooms. It's just five minutes from the university. All of our halls are non-catered to provide flexibility for students.
What facilities does Coventry University have that make it stand out?
At Coventry University, you get the chance to learn in real-world-style environments, which help prepare you for working life. These include The CAVE, our virtual reality environment, where students can practice real-life healthcare and environmental scenarios, like natural disasters.
Our Superlab is one of the UK’s largest educational labs, with cutting-edge facilities for biomedical science, pharmacology, and forensic science students. There’s also a mock ambulance for healthcare students, a trading floor for business and finance students, and a moot room, where law students can develop their advocacy and courtroom skills.
Outside of lectures, The Hub is the main place students meet up for food and coffee. There’s a games area and a lounge area with beanbags where you can study or relax together. Your Students' Union and Square One are in the same building and put on all kinds of entertainment, including quiz nights, live music, and cinema nights.
Does Coventry University do anything unusual to meet the students with different accessibility requirements?
We have lots of support systems in place for students with different accessibility requirements.
Our Wellbeing and Disability Officers give guidance on personal, practical, and emotional issues. The Coventry University campus has The Lounge Space, with quiet, sensory-friendly rooms to help you focus and recharge. The space was designed to support neurodivergent students and anyone who needs a peaceful space on campus.
All students get a success coach to help them throughout their university journey. Our success coaches are trained coaches who work with you to build a personal success plan, so you have a clear roadmap to achieving your ambitions.
We have mental health advisers, as well as an online wellbeing support platform available for year-round 24/7 support in over 35 languages.
And if you’re a care leaver, you can access lots of different benefits including free accommodation for the whole of your course if you’re full-time. You’ll have a welfare officer to support you from pre-entry and all the way through your studies. There’s a welcome event to help you meet support staff and get advice, as well as a carers community set up by our success coaches, with a monthly get-together for shared support.
What do students say about studying here?
Matthew Hoult has just graduated from Coventry University with a BA (Hons) in Geography:
‘One of the main reasons I chose to study at Coventry University was the support available from the department and across the university. The academics are always happy to chat in person or online and there is a real sense of community… There are also loads of other services across the university. Success coaches have been a great point of contact for goal-setting and referring me to other academic services.’
