Karim West, Community Engagement Coordinator at UA92, explains what makes UA92 an exciting place to study - and how to put together a strong application.
What is UA92?
UA92 - short for University Academy 92 - is a higher education institution formed by a partnership between the legendary Manchester United Class of ‘92, Lancaster University, and a range of industry partners. That includes Microsoft, who actually have a Northern Hub on the UA92 campus, and co-designed the digital degree offerings.
Why apply to UA92?
UA92 is focussed on preparing students for the workplace. Throughout your degree, you’ll be provided with networking opportunities through UA92’s industry partners-- but more than that, you’ll be given everything you need to make use of those opportunities through one-to-one careers coaching and a curriculum focused on preparing you for your future career.
UA92’s schedule is another really appealing feature. You only take one module at a time, so you can really focus on what you’re studying. Plus, that means you don’t have the traditional end-of-year exams-- instead, you’re assessed at the end of each six-week module, while it’s still all fresh in your mind.
UA92 also structures its class schedule to mirror the working week, and to maintain consistency so that you can keep on maintaining your social life, your work, and any family and caring obligations. This means that classes are only scheduled during normal working hours. Every student is also assigned either the AM or the PM slot, which means you know exactly when you’ll need to be on campus for your entire degree.
Who isn’t the right fit for UA92?
UA92 expects students to be proactive and work hard. If you’re hoping for the kind of university experience where you can hide at the back of the lecture hall, UA92 probably isn’t the place for you.
While UA92’s unique scheduling structure has a lot of benefits, it may not be the best choice for everyone, so think carefully as well about what you’re looking for in your day-to-day experience.
Any application tips?
You can apply to UA92 either through UCAS, or directly on the UA92 website. Applying through the website is free, but you do need to already have your qualifications and certificates ready to go.
The UA92 team is always happy to answer questions, so another tip would be to make sure to reach out if you need any help with preparing your application!
