How to: How to navigate your way around a Unifrog virtual fair

We’re so excited to have you join us as an attendee at a Unifrog virtual fair! You’ll have the opportunity to learn from industry experts and find out about opportunities suitable for you.
Check out this short guide to Unifrog virtual fairs to learn how to sign up, how to join sessions, and how to make contact with universities and employers at the fair.
What is a Unifrog virtual fair?
Unifrog virtual fairs let you:
- Attend live sessions with universities and employers (you can watch them afterwards also)
- Visit their virtual booths to talk to them about their opportunities
- Get in touch with them using their chat feed
You also have the option to share your contact details with exhibitors so they can get in touch with you about their opportunities.
How are virtual fairs different from webinars?
You might already be familiar with Unifrog’s webinars. Unlike our webinars, virtual fairs are hosted on a platform called SpotMe (you can find out more about this below).
In a virtual fair you can engage more actively than in a webinar, for example you can make contact with the universities and employers you’re interested in, and you can choose to attend different sessions and visit different booths.
How do you hear about and sign up for a virtual fair?
You’ll hear about our upcoming fairs:
- In our student newsletter, The Unifrog Post
If you’re not signed up yet to this newsletter, go to your Settings, scroll down and tick the box next to ‘Student newsletter’.
- On the Events page on our website, or on the Events tool on your Unifrog student account
Here’s a direct link to the Events tool on a student account - We also share all our fairs in emails and newsletters for your teachers
They might also let you know they’re coming up.
Once you’ve found the fair you’d like to sign up for, click ‘sign up’ and you’ll be taken to the SpotMe registration page.
You’ll register with your email address which we’ll use to send you your personal joining link. For this reason, you must use an email address that you can actually login to, or you won’t receive your link!
What does a Unifrog virtual fair look like?
All Unifrog’s virtual fairs are hosted on SpotMe. Whether you’re joining a university fair, an apprenticeship fair, a subject discovery fair, or an international fair, the interface and how you navigate from attending sessions to speaking to exhibitors will be the same.
At the top of your view, you can navigate to:
- Your homepage
- Live sessions
- The exhibitors at the fair (listed as either ‘Universities’ or ‘Employers’)
- Your notifications
On the left-hand side, you can access all of the above as well as:
- Any notes you’ve made
- Any sessions or speakers you’ve bookmarked
- Help
Here’s a screenshot of how the interface looks:
How do you join a Unifrog fair when it starts?
An hour before a fair is due to start, you’ll receive an email with a personal joining link. Click it to go to your SpotMe homepage.
You’ll then find all the details for the day and a video from Unifrog telling you what to expect and how to get the most out of the fair. We recommend you watch this before you start.
Please don’t share the link you receive by email. It’s personalised to you. If your friends or family want to join, they can sign up at any time to receive their own link – they can sign up once the fair begins too!
How do you join individual sessions?
To join a live session, click on one of the three ‘Live session’ buttons to see the schedule for the day. After you click on the session you want to attend, you’ll see a countdown to show you how long you have until that session starts.
You can bookmark the session to come back to it later, or add it to your calendar to be reminded just before it starts.
If you want to watch a session that has already ended, click on it from the ‘Live sessions’ view to watch the recording. You can also bookmark these to come back to later. You can find all your bookmarked sessions in the ‘Bookmarks’ tab.
While you’re playing a live or recorded session, you can visit speakers’ booths, and the video will continue to play at the bottom of your screen. You can open it up again by clicking the ‘full screen’ button.
How do you visit a speaker’s booth and start a chat?
When you register for the fair, you’ll be asked if you’d like to share your information with the universities or employers whose booths you visit. If you opt in, your contact details will be shared a week after the event. We will only share your contact details if you opt in.
On the day of the event, you can talk to any of the speakers or universities/employers present by clicking the ‘Universities’ or ‘Employers’ buttons at the top or left-hand side of your page.
This will take you to the list of all their virtual booths. Click on the one you’re interested in to go to their booth.
To chat with them, click the banner at the top of their page (‘Chat with us’). Then, write a post for them to reply to. You’ll be able to read other posts to see if your question has already been answered.
On this page you can also access their website and social pages, bookmark them for later, make notes about them, or chat with them.
